Executive summary

At DevDay 2025, OpenAI reframed software building around four pillars: Apps inside ChatGPT (via a new Apps SDK), production-grade agents (via AgentKit, with Agent Builder, ChatKit, and agent evals), a general-availability Codex for end-to-end coding on the new GPT-5-Codex family, and model/API updates including GPT-5 ProSora 2video+sound, and a lower-cost Realtime Mini voice model (OpenAI, 2025a; 2025b; 2025c; 2025d; 2025e). 1) Apps inside ChatGPT: from chat to super-app platform

What’s new. Developers can now build and run full apps inside ChatGPT—with interactive UIs, account sign-in, data connections, and actions—using a preview Apps SDK built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Launch partners include Coursera, Canva, and Zillow; apps surface contextually during conversations and can be opened fullscreen or picture-in-picture. Why it matters. Historically, conversational “plugins” suffered from brittle tool calls and thin interfaces. The Apps SDKadds first-class UI + state sharing (“talking to apps”), which lets the model understand what the user is viewing/doing and respond with richer, lower-latency interactions. Energy & scale: the physical side of the platform shift

DevDay also underscored the infrastructure reality: apps and agents at global scale depend on data centers, networks, and power.
